Quick Hits (cont’d.)
- Again with an item I may be reading too much into, but why doesn’t Desmond make any apparent attempt to trigger Ben to his Island memories? Has Ben-X already made his choice?
- We’ve gone over this before, but Jack confirms his long-in-coming acceptance of whatever destiny has in store for him, content to fulfill his role as candidate. He’s finally learned to “let go,” as his father told him so long ago.
- Another question answered: the mysterious “whispers” we’ve heard since season 1 are the voices of the dead. More specifically, the voices of the dead who “can’t move on,” in Michael’s words.
I presume that to mean those who’ve committed foul misdeeds while there. Michael’s is obvious: his murder of Ana Lucia and Libby. I wonder, perhaps in fit of reaching, if Esau is stuck on the Island because of his misdeeds as well. Perhaps those that “can’t move on” are those that sided with Esau, whether knowingly or not.
- License plate bonanza! Continuity goofs galore or definitive proof of a flashing-through-time BMW?

- While talking to Ben, Desmond makes reference to his son, Charlie, a clear indication Desmond is fully aware of his Island self. That said, will Desmond eventually have to make a choice / sacrifice once his “work” is complete?
- The Well.
We last saw a well during the time flashes last season. Long before The Orchid was built, a well had been dug down to one of the Island’s pockets of electromagnetic energy. You’ll recall Locke got stuck down there during a flash but ended up turning the frozen donkey wheel to set the Island back on its axis and stop the flashes. This particular well was intended to tap into a similar pocket of EM energy but appears to have turned up dry long ago. However, I’d like to use my favorite Lost recap word, perhaps, in saying that perhaps this particular well is close to an EM pocket, and we all know Desmond has a particular ability to interact with those. What do I mean? Well, I expect to see Desmond turn into Superman next week, that’s what.
- Interesting symbol on the Santa Rosa van:

- I do believe this is the third or fourth significant appearance of red plantlife this season. We’ve seen red plants/flowers previously at the Temple and adjacent to Sun’s garden. Tonight, Hurley lays a fresh, red flower at Libby’s grave.
I should also point out Desmond was wearing a decidedly red shirt. I still have yet to figure out what the red motif means, but let’s speculate some more with the aid of flower symbolism sites:

Re: The T-Rex trophy. You asked about the relevance of the shape of the trophy. The donation was to the Paleontology Museum, thus the dinosaur trophy. If you were asking for a less obvious answer, the only thing that I can think of is this: Didn’t Hurley once suggest (very early on) that the noises in the jungle might be dinosaurs? Or am I making that up all together?

Psi equalling twenty three could be indicative of the twenty third psalm from the Bibile…Yeah, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, For God is with me, thy rod and thy staff comfort me, ….. and I will walk in the valley of the Lord forever….
Oh, yes, and as far as the red, watch the special features on M night Shamalan’s Sixth Sense…I believe he used it for a metaphor of death….I can’t remember now…But there was the red door knob to the basement, the red in the restaurant, and a couple of other times he said he used it for a purpose…I just can’t remember the detail right now… and could the “bottom” stuff you mention in your chalkboard picture be indicative of the submerged island we saw in this year’s first episode?
I had to wait twenty four hours to see this episodie, and to read your commentary….both terrific, as usual…thanks! I am still waiting for Jin to be reunited with Sun
