True Stories of Buffalo, NY – OH SHI-!

I’ve since moved away from my humble beginnings at 605 Colvin and the Intersection of Death, and somehow neglected to post this at the time of its occurrence last August. I was really excited about this one.

Police released the names today of the couple who were shot to death Sunday morning inside a North Buffalo apartment in what appeared to be a targeted killing.

Dhanika McDaniel, 25, of Sanders Road, and her boyfriend, Loren Hinkle, 26, of Donaldson Avenue, were found dead inside McDaniel’s apartment at 348 Sanders Road, off Colvin Avenue. An autopsy performed today showed that they both died from single gunshot wounds.

Buffalo police said today that the couple’s 4-year-old son likely witnessed his parents being shot to death.

“Detectives believe that the little boy was in the home and there is a good chance that he witnessed the incident,” said Buffalo Police spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge.

DeGeorge would not comment on a motive for the double murder. He said said one of the victims is “known to police,” but he declined to say which one.

“I think it’s fair to say that the detectives are looking at one theory that one, or both victims, knew the attacker or attackers,” said DeGeorge, adding that there were no signs of forced entry at the home.

Police believe that the couple was alive at around the midnight hour.

In the hours that followed, the boy’s maternal grandmother tried to call the home a couple times. The boy finally answered the phone on Sunday morning, police said. A relative of one of the victims then called 911 between 11 and 11:30 a.m. Sunday asking police to check on them, DeGeorge said.

Upon entering the lower apartment, police found the bodies of a 25-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man.

Both apparently had been killed by shots fired inside the apartment, DeGeorge said.

How long the bodies had been in the apartment, which was rented by the woman, was unclear, DeGeorge said.

Police sources, however, said the couple probably knew their killers or were the intended targets.

Neighbors said the couple had lived in the rented house with the boy for about a year.

  1. I recall reading this in the Buffalo News but never made the connection. But then I tend to think of you kind of like Jean Reno in The Professional.
