Quick Hits cont’d.
- Sawyer implied to Jack that Faraday was no longer with Dharma. Whether that means he’s off traipsing through the jungle or jumping through time somehow will have to be answered later. I’ll just take this opportunity to chronicologically categorize our castaways:
1977: Sawyer, Sayid, Jack, Kate, Hurley, Miles and Juliet
2007: Lapidus, Sun, Ben, Locke
?: FaradayI suppose we could come up with some cockamamie but legit reason Ben and Lapidus would not have jumped back to 1977, since they weren’t onboard Oceanic 815, but why did Sun stay in 2007? Are she and Jin some sort of package deal when time travel comes into play?
- I enjoyed Sun hitting Ben over the head with an oar, only because it reminded me of a classic Walker, Texas Ranger clip.
- No real topic here; just wanted to post this cool shot of the moonlit islands.
- We saw Faraday change the past when he met Swan Desmond in the jungle, which triggered new memories in 2007 Desmond. Will the same concept hold true for Sayid and the young Ben he meets in The Star’s jail cell? Will 2007 Ben suddenly remember Sayid?
Better yet, will Sayid and the rest of the 1977 castaways try to nurture the better aspects of Ben’s personality and turn him into a “nice” guy? Either way, the actor playing Young Ben certainly has Michael Emerson’s bug-eyes down.
- I was pleased with Jack’s designation as a janitor. I was more intriugued by the reference to his duty station: The Shed. Should I interpret that literally and assume it just refers to a shed full of tools and lawnmowers? Nah, that’s no fun. Another Dharma station, it is! I like lists, so let me do just that:
The Swan
The Pearl
The Looking Glass
The Flame
The Arrow
The Staff
The Temple
The Broom Closet
The Lamp Post
The Hydra
The Orchid
The Tempest
The Star
The Motor PoolYeah, I know those aren’t all technically stations, but I’m literally only about 28% awake right now, so just deal with it. You can see all the logos here.
- And last but most certainly not least, Christian Shephard appears to Sun and Frank in a dilapidated Otherville in 2007. He implies he can somehow get Jin and Sun back together again, but I’m more interested in what took place just before Christian’s appearance: Smokey rumbled through the bushes near the dock Frank and Sun dock the outrigger canoe at. (Sun tells Frank it was probably just an animal, but we all know better.)
Now, was Smokey just running sentry duty for Christian? Or, more to my liking, are Smokey and Christian one and the same in this case. As I’ve long maintained, Smokey can assume human form. The smoke monster has shown the ability to scan thoughts and memories (remember back to images from Eko’s memories appearing in the smoke in season 2), so it nabbed Christian’s body from the coffin back when 815 crashed, scanned the corpse’s memories and filed them away for future use. Sorry, Jack, I don’t think you’ll actually be reunited with your dear, old Dad anytime soon…at least not the original version.
And come on, if we needed more hints, what was with all the smoke floating around the rec room? Although, those wisps of smoke seemed to come from outside as the door was blown open by the “wind.” Well, Smokey has shown the ability (like his 3-headed dog alias, “Cerberus“) to separate into distinct pieces, so one piece of Mr. Shephard, while the other blows open the door just to keep an eye on things.
Ilana said “Jarrah”, as in Sayid Jarrah, her prisoner.
Thanks, Worf.
I think Claire was also in the rec room with Christian. (Watch the episode again, because my screenshot doesn’t really show it that well.)
Dear God, spelling and grammar errors galore in this post. My deepest apologies. I shall not correct them, for posterity’s sake, as proof of my having been 72% asleep during its composition.
