The Lighthouse
As part of Lost’s semi-annual hiatus alternate-reality game, they’ve been giving glimpses of new content for the upcoming season (which starts January 21st). At the end of their newest video, focusing on the many books featured on episodes of the show, this logo flashes:
I’ll refer to it as “The Lighthouse” for now. You can see the rest of the logos here.
Fringe References
From this past week’s episode of Fringe, co-created by [Lost co-creator] J.J. Abrams:
No direct relation to Lost…yet.
Election '08 Recap
You all know what happened Tuesday night: change is finally here. GREAT to see the high turnout numbers, a sign that we had two worthy candidates for a change. Anyway, you can read exhaustive recaps and editorials from writers far more intelligent and skillful than I, so I’m gonna focus on what I seem to do best: berate the major network coverage of the festivities with my trademark sarcastic wit! Let the hilarity begin!
NBC
NBC’s graphics department must’ve just had a sizable bump in their operating budget, as they seemed determined to induce as many seizures as possible with visual aids, constantly shifting graphs and an entire green screen studio depicting a Roman senate chamber of some sort that looks like it might’ve been created by a couple of stoned out college students.
Season 5
Poochinski
This couldn’t possibly be real…
Ya got that right, Poochinski.
Step Brothers | A-
director: Adam McKay
starring: Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Mary Steenburgen, Richard Jenkins
I’ll make this short and sweet, since a review of a comedy seems kind of ridiculous. Step Brothers is hilarious, and you should all go see the movie about 40-something idiots who still live with their parents. When they move in together, hiliarity ensues. There’s a small sect of people out there that seem not to “get” the whole Will Ferrell as comedy genius idea, and I pity you. Please go continue watching Larry the Cable Guy movies. Add John C. Reilly’s mentally challenged brand of comedy into the flick directed by Anchorman director Adam McKay and you’ve got the recipe for great success! Sexy times! Very nice! Yegshemash! I’m really writing just enough here to maintain the formatting of this post before getting to the world premiere of the “Boats ‘n Hoes” music video, uncut and uncensored. If you’re gonna see Step Brothers, don’t watch quite yet, or you may spoil one of the best moments of the movie.
John Adams | A-
Having just come back from Washington, DC a week ago, it seemed like an opportune time to catch HBO’s latest mini-series sensation, John Adams. Adams, our 2nd president, is a guy I knew little about, other than the fact he had a ridiculous haircut. When you think about it, though, if he was the second President in our nation’s history, he had to have done something noteworthy beforehand, right? But why do we, as a nation, seem to know so little about the man, other than he and George Bush are the only Presidents to have their sons occupy the same job (John Quincy Adams was our 6th president)? Why is he not honored with the other Founding Fathers with a monument in Washington? Why haven’t we learned more about him from our high school history teachers?
It's not TV, it's The Wire
I’ve harped on this in many a post here on Jeff-Fischer.net, but I’ll say again that it’s criminal David Simon’s The Wire has not received more widespread acclaim and attention from the viewing populace. The final episode of the series bows this Sunday night on HBO, and it’s a good time to recognize what I hope will be an increasingly popular show in the coming years (on DVD, obviously), as its’ legend grows. I’ll first point you to my first post on the subject, which contains a bit more discussion of just what the show is about, as today’s post is meant more as a call-to-arms than a review of the show. Click here for that post. As to why it’s not receiving that aforementioned attention, I’m not sure, but with the glut of choices available to the media consumer these days, a case might be made that the reasons that make the show so good are the same reasons it’s not that popular.
WOW
Ignore the title and pretend the game hasn’t happened yet, so you can enjoy my Super Bowl Running Diary; a post idea blatantly stolen from ESPN.com writer Bill Simmons (who thought the Pats would blow the Giants out in this game)!
